Discovering God’s Purposes of Proclamation of the King of Glory by Relating with Him through the Lord’s Feast of Trumpets

TRUTH AND PURPOSE

The Feast of Trumpets, also celebrated as Rosh Hashanah, Head of the Year, provides a visual aid of an appointed time of sounding a special proclamation of the King of Glory. What do I mean?

God designed the Feast of Trumpets to be an appointed time of engaging with Him. So it is a perpetual day of celebration. More than just a time of celebration, however,  it was designed to serve as a “wake-up call” to bring God’s people into alignment with Him ten days before the solemn Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur).

So it was to begin a special period of reconciliation with God. How special? It reminds us that we need to condition or re-condition our heart. So it calls for  ten days of repentance. Hence it is called the “Days of Awe” which culminate at Yom Kippur, Day of Atonement.

Also important is the fact that the trumpet (ram’s horn, or shofar) was also used to issue an official announcement or proclamation of kingdom business. So God designed a special appointed time for all to hear Him loud and clear. God still speaks today and seeks those with hearts to receive His love, ears to listen and a conscience to trust and obey!

RELEVANCE

Besides proclaiming a king’s message, trumpets were also used to proclaim the entry and presence of a king.

With trumpets and the sound of a horn;
Shout joyfully before the Lord, the King.
(Psalm 98:6)

In fact, believers have been set on notice that a day will come to make the greatest proclamation the world will ever hear.

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18)

Therefore, whatever the Kingdom message may be, all have a need to listen for the sound of God’s trumpet; His Kingdom proclamation.  We likewise need to be bold in proclaiming the message of the Kingdom of God and salvation of Messiah Jesus as Lord and King of the universe. We do so in word and also honor His kingship and authority over all creation through noble actions conducted in humility.

So maintaining humility is crucial. David was the greatest king of Israel. He foreshadowed the King of kings, Messiah Jesus. He kept a soft heart before God. Consequently, he maintained a practice of self-examination to stay right with God. “Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; Try my mind and my heart” (Psalm 26:2). As a result, he kept his heart in alignment with God.

For this same reason, Paul admonishes us to examine ourselves before participating in the Lord’s communion. “So let a person examine himself first, and then he may eat of the bread and drink from the cup; 29 for a person who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself” (1 Corinthians 11:28-29 JNT).

REFLECT AND RELATE

It what ways do you proclaim through language and actions the Lord your God?

How do you maintain the discipline of self-examination?

How do you allow the Holy Spirit to convict your heart so you can receive God’s love and the grace of His mercy?

In what ways do you allow the Holy Spirit to change your inner attitudes so you can come into compliance with God’s ways and by God’s grace, change outward behaviors?

In what ways can you represent the Lord by boldly proclaiming His name?
